Dr. Smith was inspired by a local dentist to focus his love of medicine and science into dentistry. After graduating from University of Michigan Dental School, he moved back near his hometown of Jenison to join the group at Northway Family Dentistry in 2006.
Dr. Smith’s personal philosophy is to never stop learning. He strives to keep adopting successful techniques and treatments as they evolve, providing his patients with the best possible care. He brings that focus on education to his patients by helping them understand the best way to care for their teeth and why it’s so important.
“With kids it’s especially effective—first tell them and show them what you will be doing, and they’ll understand better,” says Dr. Smith. He often uses examples, demonstrates techniques or uses videos or brochures to help explain what needs to be done and what to expect.
That trust often leads to a better dental care commitment. “I like to see patients getting excited about having their work done and having their problems fixed,” says Dr. Smith. “I like making people happy with their smile again.”
Dr. Smith married his wife, Mollie, in 2006. The couple is happily discovering the joys and responsibilities of parenting with the birth of their son, Carter, in 2010.
